How our aluminum ramp works

Swipe through the 3 steps.

  1. Building-mounted rail

Aluminum mounting rail fastened along the door threshold of a shed, labeled door threshold and mounting rail

A mounting rail attaches to the shed at the door threshold.

  2. Ramp connection

Close-up of the aluminum ramp connected to the mounting bracket with bolts, labeled ramp connection

The ramp connects to the rail and is secured with the included hardware.

  3. Access to your shed

Aluminum ramp at the double doors of a shed, labeled ribbed aluminum surface and ground contact

The ribbed aluminum surface gives you footing, and the far end rests on the ground.

Installation instructions

Tools: a drill with a 5/16" driver bit, a level and a tape measure. The mounting rail (building hook) and all screws, including the safety screws, come with the ramp.

Read all 8 steps
  1. Use a qualified installer

Ramps must be installed by skilled, qualified technicians. Follow all applicable local, state and federal health and safety rules.

  2. Confirm ramp slope and door height

Install only where the door is no more than 24 inches above grade, or where the installed slope will not exceed 3:12 (24-inch drop over 6 feet). Provide at least a 1:12 slope (6-inch drop over 6 feet) for water runoff.

  3. Prepare the ground transition

The lower end of the ramp must sit flush with the ground. If needed, measure 5 feet from the building to estimate where the ramp will meet the ground and dig a small trench parallel to the building, as wide as the door. On concrete or asphalt, adjust the transition by shimming (raising) the building.

  4. Inspect the ramp and remove the shipping screws

Check the front and back for shipping damage, and confirm the caution and warning labels are on the upper-left corner. Remove the two shipping screws holding the building hook to the center rail. Save these Tek screws for the last step. Wood screws for the building hook are in the bag.

  5. Install the building hook

Attach the hook to the perimeter board. Position the bottom of the hook 1-1/2 inches above the bottom of the perimeter board for personnel doors, or about 2-1/2 inches for garage (roll-up) doors. Center it on the door and keep it level and straight. Install a wood screw in every hole with a 5/16-inch driver. Check for splitting: do not use the ramp until any split perimeter board is replaced or reinforced. For an 8-foot-wide garage door, use two 4-foot ramps butted together.

  6. Engage and center the ramp

Slide the ramp end with the mating angle into position so the ramp angle and building hook interlock. Shift the ramp sideways as needed to center it on the hook and door.

Warning: Do not let the ramp angle overhang the building hook.

  7. Check the lower end

Make sure the ramp meets the ground with a smooth transition. If needed, remove the ramp and adjust the trench, or raise the building by shimming.

  8. Install both retaining (safety) screws

With the ramp in its final position, use the saved Tek screws to install one retaining screw on each side, through the building hook and ramp angle.

Warning: Without the retaining screws the ramp could come off the hook.

Ramp Questions

What sizes do the ramps come in?
Three sizes: 4x6, 5x6 and 6x6. The first number is the width. The actual width is 2 inches under the name: a 4x6 is 46 x 72 inches, a 5x6 is 58 x 72 inches, a 6x6 is 70 x 72 inches. Every ramp is 72 inches (6 feet) long.
How much weight can the ramp hold?
The ramps are rated for 1,000 pounds per axle and 500 pounds per wheel. Both limits apply. Call us if you are unsure whether your equipment is within them.
Which width should I choose?
Measure your shed door opening and the equipment you plan to roll in, and compare them with the actual ramp widths: 46, 58 or 70 inches. If you are not sure which width fits, call us at 706-568-0500 before ordering.
Will the ramp rust or rot?
No. The ramp is aluminum, so it will never rot, and it comes with a lifetime warranty against rust. It is the last shed ramp you will have to buy.
Why replace my wooden ramp with aluminum?
Wooden ramps rot, warp and get slippery when they are wet, so they have to be replaced again and again. Our aluminum ramp has a non-slip surface, never rots and is covered by a lifetime warranty against rust. It is built to last forever.
How does delivery pricing work?
We confirm your address and measure the driving distance from our lot. Delivery is $50 through 30 miles and $75 over 30 through 45 miles. Beyond 45 miles, choose free pickup or request a delivery quote and we will call you.
Can I install the ramp myself?
Yes. Installation takes about 10 to 15 minutes. All you need is a drill, a 5/16" nut driver bit and a level. The ramp comes with all the hardware to install it, including the mounting bracket and all screws, safety screws included.
Do you install the ramp?
Yes, for $95 on sheds only, with delivery. Upload photos of the shed entrance, the ground and the access route when you order, or send them later. Photos must be reviewed and approved before installation is scheduled, and the installation fee is billed after approval.
Is sales tax charged?
Sales tax applies to the ramp only. Delivery and installation are not taxed. Tax is calculated at checkout.
When will I get my ramp?
After your order, we contact you to schedule pickup or delivery. We do not set a date until we have confirmed it with you.
