Will it fit my shed?
Four quick checks before you order an aluminum shed ramp. Not sure after reading them? Call us or send photos and we will help.
-
1 Match your door width
Choose the ramp that matches your door opening. A narrower ramp is fine if your equipment fits on it. Don't choose a ramp wider than the door opening.
- 4×6 46" wide
- 5×6 58" wide
- 6×6 70" wide
All ramps are 72 inches long.
-
2 Check the mounting surface
The mounting tray must screw into solid structural wood, such as the perimeter band or a floor joist. The wood must be at least 1½ inches thick.
Siding or trim alone is not an acceptable attachment point.
-
3 Check door clearance
Roll-up doors: the mounting tray can be installed flush beneath the threshold.
Outswing doors: start with the top of the mounting tray 1 to 2 inches below the bottom edge of the door.
Either way, the final position must let the door open freely and give a smooth transition between the ramp and the threshold.
How to check outswing-door clearance
- Temporarily attach the mounting tray with two screws, one at each end.
- Place the ramp in the tray.
-
Do not stand on the ramp or put any weight on it during this check.
- Carefully open the door. It should clear the ramp, and the ramp should meet the threshold with a smooth transition.
- If the door catches or the transition has an excessive gap or step, remove the ramp and adjust the tray up or down before checking again.
- Once the fit is correct, finish installing every required mounting screw and both retaining safety screws. Do not use the ramp until installation is complete.
-
4 Check ground contact
The bottom of the ramp can rest on grass, dirt, gravel, concrete or other surfaces. Grass and dirt work best because the ground is easier to adjust.
The ramp adjusts to the angle of the ground, but its lower edge should meet a firm, flat surface with even support all the way across. It does not make up for ground that is higher on one side than the other.
