Shed delivery is usually quick. Most installs are done in under an hour. But there are things on the customer's end that can either make the day go smoothly or turn it into a longer, more complicated job. Spending 20 minutes preparing your property before we arrive can save everyone a lot of time.
Here is what to have ready before our crew shows up.
Clear the Delivery Path
The most important thing you can do is make sure there is a clear path from the street to where the shed will be placed. We need at least 12 feet of width along the entire route, and overhead clearance of at least 14 feet.
Walk the path yourself before delivery day and look for anything that narrows it or crosses overhead. Common obstacles include:
- Overhanging tree branches that dip low over the driveway or yard
- Power or cable lines that run close to the ground
- Basketball hoops or other structures near the driveway
- Vehicles parked along the route
- Lawn furniture, play equipment, or yard decorations in the path
- Gates that are not fully open or may not open wide enough
If a gate is part of the path, make sure it is open and latched back before we arrive. Our crew moves quickly and having to stop to deal with a gate that is partially blocking the route adds unnecessary time to the job.
Mark Where You Want the Shed Placed
Know exactly where you want the shed before our crew arrives, and mark the spot if you can. A few spray paint marks on the grass or flags at the corners work well. If the placement involves specific setback requirements from a property line or fence, measure that out in advance.
Once the shed is on the ground and leveled, moving it requires more work. We want to place it correctly the first time. If you are uncertain about the exact spot, think through it before delivery day so you can give clear direction when we get there. Have someone home who is authorized to make that call.
Think About Ground Conditions
We level every shed on concrete blocks as part of the standard delivery. You do not need to pour a slab or build a foundation before we arrive. But the ground should be reasonably accessible.
If the ground in the target area is extremely soft after rain, rutted, or has drainage issues that make it saturated, let us know when you schedule. In some cases it is worth waiting a few days for the ground to firm up so we can level the building properly and avoid the truck getting stuck in the yard.
If you have a significantly sloped area in mind for the shed, we can work with moderate slopes -- our leveling blocks can compensate for a fair amount of grade. For steep slopes, we can talk through what is realistic. Extremely uneven ground may be better addressed with a build-on-site approach.
Have Someone Home
Someone needs to be present during the delivery. This person should be able to approve the placement location, have access to the area where the shed is going, and be available to answer any questions the crew has during the job.
Do not schedule delivery on a day when no one will be home. The crew needs someone on-site to confirm placement and sign off on the job when it is complete.
What Our Crew Does on Delivery Day
When we arrive, our crew will assess the placement area, position the shed, and level it on concrete blocks. Leveling is included in every delivery -- we do not just drop the building and leave.
Once the shed is set and level, the crew will make sure the doors operate properly and do a quick walkthrough to confirm everything is in order. For in-stock aluminum sheds, this whole process typically takes less than an hour from arrival to completion. Larger buildings or trickier site conditions may take longer, but we will give you a realistic estimate when we schedule.
In-stock sheds are typically ready for delivery within 3 to 5 business days of ordering. Delivery is free within 35 miles of Columbus, GA.
If Your Property Has Special Conditions
If your property has access conditions that concern you -- a narrow driveway, a tight turn, low-hanging trees, a gate that may be borderline for clearance -- tell us when you schedule. We would rather know about it in advance and plan accordingly than show up and discover a problem on delivery day.
For properties where standard delivery genuinely is not possible, our build-on-site service is an alternative. Our crew brings materials to your property and builds the shed in place, so access to the final location is handled differently than a truck delivery.
