When people come to Banner Buildings looking for a storage building, the first real decision is usually the same: aluminum or wood? Both are solid options. The right one depends on your property, how much you want to maintain it, what it needs to look like, and your budget.

Here is a straightforward breakdown of how the two compare, so you can make a decision that you will be happy with five years from now.

Durability and Weather Resistance

Aluminum sheds have one major advantage: they do not rust, rot, or need to be repainted. The aluminum siding and roofing panels hold up in Georgia's humidity and heat without any special treatment. We back that up with a lifetime warranty against rust and corrosion -- which is not something you can say about most building materials.

Custom wood sheds built with LP SmartSiding are also highly weather-resistant. LP SmartSiding is an engineered wood product designed to resist moisture, fungal damage, and impact. It holds paint well and is significantly more durable than traditional wood siding. That said, a wood shed will need to be repainted at some point, whereas aluminum will not. If you want a building that you genuinely never have to touch again, aluminum has an edge.

Customization and Appearance

Wood sheds win on customization. Our custom wood sheds are built by a local crew to whatever dimensions you need -- any size, any color, any roof style. If you have an HOA with specific requirements about how a structure has to look, a wood shed is almost always the path forward. You can match trim colors to your house, choose shingle styles, and design the door placement to work with your yard layout.

Aluminum sheds are available in standard sizes from 8x8 up to 12x32. There is less flexibility on appearance -- you are picking from available configurations rather than fully customizing. But the look is clean and professional, and for most people it fits the property just fine.

If you have a fenced yard or a tricky access situation, a wood shed can be built on-site directly in your yard. Our build-on-site service is available for wood sheds and works well for properties where a delivery truck simply cannot get to the target location. Aluminum sheds are delivered fully assembled, so you need a clear path for the truck.

Maintenance Over Time

Aluminum sheds require very little maintenance. Wipe them down if they get dirty, keep the door hinges moving freely, and that is about it. There is no painting, no staining, and no seasonal treatment required.

Wood sheds need more attention over time. You will eventually repaint or restain the exterior, and you should inspect the roof periodically. If the building is kept sealed and painted, a well-built wood shed will last for decades. But it does require some effort from the owner to stay in good shape.

Warranties

Aluminum sheds come with a lifetime warranty against rust and corrosion. Custom wood sheds carry a 5-year warranty on materials and workmanship. Both are meaningful commitments, but the aluminum warranty is more comprehensive for long-term peace of mind.

Price and Financing

Aluminum sheds generally come in at lower price points than comparable custom wood builds, partly because they arrive already assembled and do not require a crew to build on your property. Custom wood sheds cost more but give you much more flexibility in size and design.

Both options are available through our rent-to-own program -- no credit check, $250 to $400 down, terms from 24 to 60 months, and no early payoff penalty. Traditional financing through Lendmark Financial or Foundation Finance Company is also available if you prefer a standard loan.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you want the lowest maintenance option, the strongest long-term warranty, and a faster delivery timeline, go with aluminum. If you need a specific size that does not fit standard dimensions, have an HOA with design requirements, have a fenced yard with no delivery access, or want the shed to match your home's appearance more closely, a custom wood shed is the better fit.
